Tow Car Matching: Check the Complete Vehicle and Caravan Setup
Check whether your tow vehicle and caravan are a suitable loaded combination. Compare towing capacity, towball download, payload, GCM and axle-load margins before you buy or hitch up.
Tow-car matching is about more than comparing caravan ATM with advertised towing capacity. A vehicle rated to tow 3,500 kg may still exceed its payload, GCM, rear axle limit or towball download limit once passengers, accessories, cargo and the loaded caravan are included. ClearPath checks the complete combination rather than treating the tow rating as the answer.
What the Tow Match checks
Tow rating
Is the caravan ATM within the vehicle's braked tow capacity?
Towball download
Does the caravan's towball mass stay within the vehicle's towball limit?
GCM margin
Does the combined weight of vehicle + caravan stay within GCM?
Axle loads
Does the towball download push the rear axle over its limit?
How it works
- Select your vehicle from the ClearPath database of sourced Australian-market specifications, or enter your details manually.
- Enter your caravan or trailer specifications — tare, ATM, ball weight and load inputs.
- The engine calculates a match score (0–100) and rates the combination as Excellent, Good, Moderate, High Risk or Unsuitable.
