Detailed Weight Distribution Calculator & Report - $29

A deterministic, transparent weight distribution calculator for Australian towing setups. See exactly how passengers, cargo and towball download affect your front and rear axle loads, GVM, GCM and caravan axle load. A$29 for one-off access.

What’s included

  • Deterministic front and rear axle load calculations using transparent lever (moment-balance) formulas
  • Towball leverage analysis showing how the caravan download unloads the front axle
  • GVM, GCM, tow rating, ATM, GTM and caravan axle load comparisons with colour-coded gauges
  • Two modes: build-up from measured unhitched front/rear axle masses, or fully loaded coupled axle-scale readings
  • Side-view car-and-caravan diagram with weight arrows, towball leverage annotation and colour-coded axle status badges
  • Priority warnings, assumptions, and a printable results summary

Inputs required

  • •Vehicle: use your own plate, manual or weighbridge figures — front and rear axle masses, GVM, GCM, axle limits, wheelbase, towball overhang and towball limit
  • •Vehicle loads: passengers and cargo by position (ahead of front axle, between axles, over rear axle, behind rear axle)
  • •Caravan: loaded mass, towball download, ATM, GTM and axle-group limit; missing applicable limits mean an incomplete assessment
  • •Measured mode: front and rear axle-scale readings taken fully loaded and coupled, with the hitch set as used

Limitations

  • Entered figures can vary from the vehicle or caravan plate values and current measured weights
  • Default load positions are used when exact distances are not provided (clearly labelled as assumptions)
  • No manufacturer figures are invented — missing fields are shown as absent, never as zero

Check your figures before paying

Paid reports provide weight, loading and modification-planning observations. They do not include a state-specific modification approval assessment or determine legal compliance. The separate free preparation guides and Navigator cover ACT and NSW only. Confirm requirements with the registration authority or an appropriately authorised certifier.

Have the exact vehicle variant and, where relevant, trailer variant, applicable manufacturer or engineering limits, and your actual loaded masses ready. Ratings are maximum limits; they are not measured axle weights.

  • Build-up mode starts with measured unhitched front and rear axle masses. Record which fuel, people and equipment are already included. Enter wheelbase, rear axle-to-towball distance and positions for net added loads; do not add the same load twice. A brochure kerb mass alone cannot establish axle distribution.
  • Measured mode uses actual fully loaded, coupled front and rear axle readings with the hitch set as used. These already include the coupling effect. Only apply further loads if you explicitly confirm they were absent from those readings.
  • Trailer and combination calculations use a conventional coupling model. This calculator has no direct coupled trailer-axle input and does not model weight-distribution-hitch forces or gooseneck geometry. Do not rely on its derived trailer-axle or combination comparisons for those setups; obtain actual axle measurements and appropriate advice.
  • Use applicable GVM, GCM, vehicle axle, towing, ball, ATM, GTM and trailer axle-group limits. Missing applicable figures leave comparisons incomplete. Results are on-screen arithmetic with a printable summary; there is no paid-report intake or automated advisory report in this product.

Digital automated guidance does not include a personal consultation, physical weighing or engineering certification. Examples are fictional, not verified customer results. For formal approval or uncertain loading, obtain qualified advice and actual measurements.

Illustrative sample — fictional figures

Fictional inputs calculated by the same engine as the paid tool. Not manufacturer specifications or a measured customer setup.

Inputs and calculation basis

Uncoupled baseline front/rear 1,422/698kg (2,120kg total), wheelbase 3,000mm, rear axle-to-ball 450mm. Passengers 200kg at an explicitly entered 1,200mm rearward of the front axle, cargo 350kg over the rear axle, ball 280kg and loaded trailer 2,800kg. Fuel is included in the fictional baseline; all additions are net and not counted twice.

Vehicle: 2,120 + 200 + 350 + 280 = 2,950kg. Trailer axles: 2,800 − 280 = 2,520kg. Combined: 2,950 + 2,520 = 5,470kg. Ball leverage: front −42kg, rear +322kg.

Towball leverage effect

The 280 kg towball download pushes down behind the rear axle. This lifts the front axle (reducing its load by 42 kg) and transfers extra load to the rear axle (increasing it by 322 kg). A heavy towball download can unload the front axle enough to affect steering and braking feel.

How it works

  1. 1. Click “Get access” and complete the secure Stripe checkout (A$29).
  2. 2. You’ll return to this page — your payment is verified server-side and the calculator unlocks automatically.
  3. 3. Choose “Use my own figures”, identify whether they came from a plate, manufacturer document or weighbridge, then enter the available vehicle and caravan values. Results update in real time using transparent formulas — no AI.
  4. 4. Print or save your results. Your inputs stay in your browser — they are not stored on our servers.

Calculations use manufacturer-published specifications and Australian road authority reference material, with vehicle details organised by model year, configuration and modification status.
